Nassau County Museum of Art
Roslyn Harbor, NY
July 22-November 5, 2023
Devoted to the way that Modigliani powerfully re-defined the art of portraiture, the show includes his masterworks along with paintings, drawings, photographs and sculpture by his Parisian contemporaries (Picasso, Matisse, Laurencin, Giacometti, Lachaise and more). Modigliani’s enduring influence can be seen in a selection of contemporary work by such important figures as David Hockney, Eric Fischl, Alex Katz, as well as by Thomas Hart Benton, Andy Warhol, Ellsworth Kelly and newer artists Mary Beth Rothman and Amy Tiffany Hemingway. The exhibition was curated by Dr. Kenneth Wayne, founder of The Modigliani Project and overseen by Director of the Museum, Charles A. Riley II.
